I recently had a potential bride, getting married in Tampa, Fl, ask to see some examples of images we’ve taken at night.  She has a evening wedding and wants to make sure she chooses a photographer who knows how to shoot well in low light.  This is a perfect example of when it’s super important to hire a professional!  The biggest issue of shooting in low light is to have good equipment. With non-professional cameras, and even older professional cameras, there just aren’t adequate features to shoot in almost complete darkness.  Most of our weddings aren’t that dark, but many have low lighting because it’s definitely more romantic. We mostly shoot with off-camera lighting to create a more natural look. It’s somewhat humorous to watch Paul and I shoot with off-camera flash because I’m trying to follow him at a certain angle while he’s bouncing around taking pictures. We’ve been told it’s like we’re dancing and shooting at the same time. lol…

These are a few examples of images taken at night.  Some are in almost complete darkness, like our trash the dress shot at nearly midnight in the ocean. Most situations we find ourselves in with evening weddings involve low light that we can capture in our images because operating with high end sensors and off camera flash. You’ve just got to get that last shot of the bride and groom at the end of their wedding day! It’s such a sweet way to signify the beginning of their lives together.
