Sending you a little Holiday Cheer!

Tuesday, December 31st, 2013

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

If you are wanting the Christmas Season to last just a little bit longer, you will definitely enjoy seeing some favorites from Brittany & Ryan’s Christmas session.  Of course, we had to grab a beautiful shot of their family on the lake (yes, dogs are family), but the real fun comes later…

The inspiration for the rest of the session came from one of Brittany’s favorite childhood Christmas ornaments.  What would any good Christmas card be without Santa, Mrs. Claus and water skis?!

Brittany loves to have the Christmas Card that everyone waits by their mailbox for each year!  I don’t think this year is any exception!

Katy & Tom’s St. Augustine Family Session

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013

During a recent beach weekend, Katy and Tom asked what we thought about heading to downtown St. Augustine for a fun and more urban look.  So we skipped the beach and this magic happened!  Katy, Tom, Ryder and Roslyn spent an hour giggling and playing around the lovely area surrounding the historic Lightner Museum.  Katy did a great job coordinating whites, grays and pinks which will look perfect on the walls of their home.  Their canvas collection will be going up any day!

Thank you Katy and Tom for letting us photograph your family for the last several years.  We’re honored we got to share this session with you and it’s a treasure knowing your amazing family!

Fall Family Session Color Inspiration

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013

It is that time of the year! When Christmas trees and holiday decorations are everywhere, you know it’s time to start making plans for holiday cards and gifts. We are so excited to spend time with your family capturing special moments and memories this fall.  There are still a few weekend spots available for sessions and some weekday evening times also.  Email or call the studio today and we’ll reserve a time for you and your family to just enjoy spending time together!

When you are planning your family session be thoughtful of color palettes.  For fall, neutrals with pops of subtle color work great!  The touches of color can be an easy and great way not only coordinate with each other, but to also ensures that the photographs will match the style of your home. Beware of dressing too “holiday themed” unless the sole purpose if for your cards.  If your hope is to have wall portraits, consider some of our samples below.

Footstone Photography Portrait Color

For the Streukens girls, the color choices were very simple and neutral. Shades of browns and tans, with the backdrop of lush greens, brought the feeling of fall to these gorgeous photographs. And let’s not forget that sparkles always add the perfect touch to a little girl’s wardrobe!

Footstone Photography Portrait Color

In the Currier’s family portrait session, they liked the idea of neutral colors to unite the family. The goal is to look cohesive, but not too “matchy-matchy”. Their family brought in pops of blue, ranging from dark navy jeans to soft blue shirts, to match the style of their home once these pictures were hung.

In the Thorp’s family session, they used a crisp and clean white and added blues and minty greens. Their family did a fantastic job of looking put together and coordinated, without being too formal. There’s pops of darker browns and tans to play off the outdoor setting that pairs great with their dark jeans.

Overall, what your family feels the most comfortable and natural in will translate best in photographs! With each of our families, we offer a pre-consulation appointment where Kristin will talk you through wardrobe ideas, location options and overall questions that will help you and your family feel prepared and excited with what to expect with your session. We have a booklet full of ideas of color combinations and wardrobe tips.  Call the studio today at 352.562.3066 or email photo@footstone.com to set up your pre-consulation soon!

Kelly & Dale’s Gainesville Engagement Session

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

The countdown to Kelly and Dale’s wedding is only 3 days away!  I don’t know if we have ever seen a bride more excited about every detail of the wedding planning process than Kelly!  And now, we are able to countdown days until her wedding arrives.  We have had such a wonderful time sharing this last year with Kelly and Dale as we have walked through the various stages of planning their dream wedding at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.  Their engagement session is a perfect reflection of what they love… the Gators and a great glass of wine!  While we are leaving the Gators behind and packing up to head to Asheville for the wedding, the “wine” theme will go with us as they join their lives in a champagne cellar and their cocktail hour is a tour of the vineyards of one of the most beautiful mansions in the United States.  We can hardly wait Kelly and Dale! It’s going to be a spectacular day and we’re thrilled that we get to share this with you!

Frequently Asked Questions for Portrait Sessions

Friday, November 1st, 2013

Why is a professional portrait session important?  Because you absolutely can’t miss a second of your family’s lives!  You must preserve each moment and stage forever.  Our main goal is to capture and showcase you and your family’s amazing personalities in an artful way.  If you have never had a professional portrait session, or are a new client to Footsone, here are a few frequently asked questions.

We look forward to meeting with you to talk about your portrait session!!

Gainesville Florida Family Portrait Photographer www.footstonephotography.com

How and when do I schedule my session?

We love to meet with each client to have a pre-consultation to go over some important details before you schedule your session.  So, lets schedule that right away!  You can email at photo@footstone.com or call 352.562.3066 to set up your consultation. Someone will contact you within 24 hours to schedule the most convenient date and time for you.

We can also schedule phone consultations for our out of town families.  We suggest scheduling your session at least three to four weeks in advance. Some weekends are available, but most sessions will be on a weekday.  Our outdoor sessions are typically scheduled in the early morning or late afternoon for the best light. Studio sessions can be scheduled any time of day and we have several options for color and textured backgrounds.

What if I need to reschedule or it rains the day of my session?

It you need to reschedule your session, that’s fine! We just ask that you tell us as soon as you know it needs to be rescheduled so that we can get you back on the schedule.  Since weather is so unpredictable in Florida, we try not to call it off until just before the session, but we can always reschedule the session if it looks like rain. There is no penalty or charge for sessions that need to be rescheduled.   If the original date/time are the only available option, we will be glad to do the shoot in our studio or another enclosed location.

Where will we photograph the session?

We enjoy every opportunity to photograph families in or near our studio in the Haile Village Center, in Gainesville and the surrounding areas, but are also available to travel throughout Florida and beyond.  Special quotes will be given for travel outside the Gainesville area. We definitely have ideas of fun and gorgeous places to shoot, but always love your suggestions of new places. For toddlers, we can photograph at your home where they may be more comfortable and we can truly capture their personalities and spirit.  Follow us on Facebook or ask to be added to our email list to find out when we’re scheduling weekends at fun locations (like St. Augustine Beach), because there won’t be an extra travel fee for these sessions.

How long is a typical portrait session?

Our portrait sessions usually last about one hour, but we don’t put you on a stopwatch! If you choose do an outfit change or another nearby location, we understand this takes time, but typically we are able to get all your amazing images in about 1 hour.

Gainesville Florida Family Portrait Photographer www.footstonephotography.com

What should I bring?

If there are any special items that you would like to include in your session, feel free to bring them, but don’t feel like you have to bring anything besides your beautiful smile!  We will be glad to include those special personal items in the shoot with you. Some ideas might include:
– For babies or kids – a favorite toy, blanket, book, or headband/outfit
– For seniors – A team uniform, letterjacket, sports ball, instrument
– For families – your loving pet, a family quilt for everyone to sit on, a sign with your Family’s Name or Holiday greeting

What clothing should I wear?

Whatever you find yourself most confident in.  We find that coordinating (not necessarily matching) colors look great together.  Think about the setting you will be in… and dress appropriately for that setting and season of the year.  We will discuss ideas for your look before the session and can also email you color samples and guides.

Gainesville Florida Family Portrait Photographer www.footstonephotography.com

How much does it cost?

Portrait sessions are $225 and our products are priced a la carte to fit your personal preferences.  Our sessions are not limited to a certain amount of time or outfit changes.  Each session is tailored to what your family is hoping for.  If you send us an email through the contact page, we’ll send you more specific details about your session!

How and when do I get to see my images and place my order?

Between 2-3 weeks after your session, we will have you come back into our studio to view all the beautiful images.  We will then be able to talk about products you would like to order, as well as show you examples of each type of product, so you know exactly what to expect with your order.

What products do you offer?

We are ridiculously obsessed with the quality of everything we put our name on.  Our albums are printed on archival photo paper and are gorgeous hand-bound coffee table style books.  You can order high quality gallery wraps that are coated for a long-lasting protection.  Our large wall prints are coated and mounted to prevent wrinkling over the years.  We can also create beautiful cards and custom designed wall prints or canvases that can showcase your family portraits.  The reason we do what we do is because we believe that printed images of our loved ones are the most precious pieces of artwork a family could have.

What is a wall collection?

A wall collection is a beautiful grouping of photographs from your session.  We offer both wall prints and gallery wraps that you can mix and match sizes for a beautiful collection of artwork.  When you come in to place your order, it is helpful to come prepared with measurements of places in your house that you would like to display your art so that we can find the appropriate collection for your space.

Do you sell digital files?

We believe that printed images of your loved ones are the most precious pieces of artwork you can have.  We are incredibly proud of the quality of our work and our hope is that we can give you heirlooms that you will hang on your walls.  We will sell a digital file for a certain cost per image with a full copyright release.  However, we photograph your family with the intent of creating artwork for your home and therefore do not give only a CD of images.

How long will you keep my images?

We store and backup all of our files from your portrait session.  Your images will not be deleted and they are available for you to order whenever you would like.

Do you photograph other events?

We love to photograph anything and everything!  We work with wedding, portrait, and commercial clients.  We hope that your experience in one of these areas will encourage you to come back to us for your changing photography needs in the future.  If you would like to see some of our work in other areas, visit our home page here.

What is the best way to keep in touch with what’s going on?

There are many ways to find out what is going on at Footstone!  Our Facebook page, Blog, and website are great ways to keep up with us.  As always, we love to have visitors stop by the studio, so feel free to if you are in the area.
